Charts Detail K-12, Higher Education Funding in House Education Stimulus Bill
Washington, D.C., January 28, 2009 — As part of our ongoing coverage of the economic stimulus, School Grants 2009 offers two new charts that detail how the House will allocate $20 billion in K-12 and post-secondary education renovation grants. The House today approved its version of the legislation, which will cost roughly $825 billion.
The school renovation funds are part of a larger education spending package totaling more than $125 billion in the form of grants and direct aid to states. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — H.R. 1 in the House and S. 1 in the Senate — would also fund investments in transportation, housing and other social services and provide tax benefits and relief for a variety of purposes, including education.
The Senate began work on its stimulus plan this week. Schoolgrants2009.com will have detailed coverage of that proposal's education provisions in the coming days and weeks as more details emerge.
