Congressional Report offers House-Senate Stimulus Funding Comparison
Washington, Feb. 4, 2009 — The Congressional Research Service today released a new report detailing state-by-state funding levels for education in the House and Senate versions of the $825 billion economic stimulus package.
The report, "Proposed Funding for Education in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," provides tables summarizing education appropriations in both versions of the act. Total spending for Education Department-administered programs in H.R. 1, which passed the House last week, is $145.05 billion. The total in S. 336, which the Senate is debating this week, is $140.1 billion in its current form.
The report offers a state-by-state estimate of funding under the House and Senate packages. It also examines issues related to maintenance of effort and fiscal accountability, which have emerged as hot topics during the stimulus debate.
